Teachers & Helpers Needed for Summer Sundays

We still need more teachers/helpers to keep our Sunday morning pre-school program and Kids Konnect parties (Gr1-5) on track this summer. Each week throughout the summer we have classes for pre-schoolers (Ages 2, 3, JK, SK) and require teachers and assistants for each. On 2 Sundays (July 23 & August 20) we also have a Kids Konnect Party for Grades 1 – 5 and need extra help those weeks. No previous teaching experience is required. Perhaps God is prompting YOU…

Friendship Club Wins Award

Last week we learned that our Friendship Club program will be a recipient of the Kitchener-Conestoga 150 for Canada’s 150th Award! This award was launched by our local MP Harold Albrecht and local MPP Michael Harris to recognize outstanding contributions to our community. For many years, Woodside has hosted this program for developmentally challenged adults in our community every Monday evening. Our long-time director Geraldine Hotchkiss will be accepting the award at a ceremony on August 1. We want to thank…

Donna’s Place Spring Renovations

One of our 2016 year-end projects was making improvements to Donna’s Place – our temporary housing for missionaries on furlough. With your support, we raised over $25,000 for this renovation project. During the last few months, many volunteers have been busily working on the upper apartment at Donna’s Place and we’re pleased to say the work has been completed. In fact, the new residents, Phil and Andrea Bauman, have just arrived from Africa and are enjoying the newly updated apartment.…

Mbabala Island Memory – Dustin

(We’ve asked the team that served in Zambia in January to share some photos and memories from their trip) This is Peter, Mark’s right hand man for all things construction. We’d have been lost without him: project manager, translator, motivator. He learned much of his trade from another missionary who was faithful to mentor him in his younger days. Most places I’ve travelled, ex-patriates have at least one trustworthy, hard-working local. For Mark, this is Peter. ~ Dustin

Mbabala Island Memory – Dennis

(We’ve asked the team that served in Zambia in January to share some photos and memories from their trip) Getting supplies to the building site is a time consuming process. It involves a lot of mental energy planning, organizing and buying. And then physical energy walking and carrying. This is part of the reason the Mbabala Island remains under developed. Working together, we can bring supplies, development, teaching and encouragement. We can make a difference. ~ Dennis

Share the Fun. Share the Food.

Summer is coming soon and we’re all excited to get out and have fun. At the same time, others in our community find it hard to provide food for themselves. Help us support the local food bank run by Woolwich Community Services in Elmira. Share the Fun, Share the food is a food bag collection campaign we are doing at Woodside this May. Starting Sunday, April 23, Woodside is providing paper bags with a list of needed items. Kids will…

Mbabala Island Memory – Amy

(We’ve asked the team that served in Zambia in January to share some photos and memories from their trip) Zambian urban centres were full of these little reminders “God is Able” or “God is Unique”. Signs like this one remind me just Who I am serving and encourage me to actively seek and listen to the gentle call of God. When you think of Zambia, Mbabala Island or Mark and Carmen, remember God IS able and there is nothing beyond…

Volunteers Needed for Donna’s Place Reno

Renovating Donna’s Place was one of our year-end projects and we are starting to get this project underway. We are looking for willing volunteers that enjoy demo, plumbing, electrical, dry walling and painting. A demo day is tentatively scheduled for April 8th and a painting day is tentatively scheduled for April 29th. Text Jonathan Hiller at 519.635.7024 or info@woodsidechurch.ca if you’re willing to be a part of our team.

Spiritual Gifts Class on Sunday Mornings

We are all gifted differently. This class will help you identify the ways you are gifted and how you can use those gifts to serve God here at Woodside, locally in our community, or around the world! The class meets in the upper Youth Lounge for 4 weeks on Sunday mornings at 11 AM. Classes will be facilitated by either Jen Horst or Darcy Dueck. March 19 & 26 April 2 & 9 If you’re interested in attending this free…

Friends for (Easter) Dinner!

Our region is home to thousands of students from around the globe who are attending post-secondary institutions. The University of Waterloo has a very large population of International Students in graduate and post-graduate studies who are in Canada for a few years. Sadly many of these students make few, if any, connections to Canadians and can feel very isolated being in a foreign country without experiencing our culture and engaging in outside activities. One way that you can help is…

New Series: The King’s Invitation

For the last four months, our Sunday morning teaching has been taking us through the Gospel of Matthew. We started with The King’s Arrival – Jesus is the King who came to earth as a man. A man on a great mission. Then we looked at The King’s Speech and what Jesus revealed to us in his most famous sermon, the Sermon on the Mount. In March, we start our third series in Matthew – The King’s Invitation. Ultimately, the Gospel message, the “Good News”…

Protect your kids online with KidsWifi

A limitied number of KidsWifi devices are available for purchase on Sunday for the special price of $100 (reg. $129). At Woodside, we want to continue to equip parents with the best tools and teaching to help families thrive, not just survive in today’s changing culture. KidsWifi is a new tool to help protect the kids in your home by setting up their own wireless network that any parent can easily manage. A KidsWifi device filters, monitors and controls all your kids online…

Mbabala Island Team Update #2

(Most of the Mbabala Island team is back in Canada now. This was sent just before they left Zambia.) Lots has transpired since my last message. Last Sunday the whole team was supposed to head to the island, but due to weather only half of us were able to, and even then only by narrowly avoiding being drenched. The rest of the team and supplies made it Monday morning. We spent the week working on construction projects and delivering training…

Artistic opportunity – Easter Festival!

We are seeking all types of creativity (poetry, paintings, sculpture, photography, quilting etc) to create a piece that portrays ‘New Life‘ for an Easter Festival in the Lower Foyer. Please keep in mind that they will be displayed for a couple weeks and also how easy it will be to display. We would like all submissions by March 26. Contact Pat Horst (horsts@rogers.com) for more details.

Mbabala Island Team Update

Saturday. January 14 We had good trip over — a long one, but a good one. We arrived Wednesday morning in Lusaka, travelled halfway to Samfya, and then completed the journey the next day. We stayed Thursday night on the island. Half of us are sleeping in tents, half are in a rented simple house. Few critters around, but it will do. Friday we had a tour of the island, and talked about plans for next week and had a…

Daily Advent Reading – December 24

Romans 1:1-7 Paul, a servant of Christ Jesus, called to be an apostle and set apart for the gospel of God— the gospel he promised beforehand through his prophets in the Holy Scriptures regarding his Son, who as to his earthly life was a descendant of David, and who through the Spirit of holiness was appointed the Son of God in power by his resurrection from the dead: Jesus Christ our Lord. Through him we received grace and apostleship to…
