Our region is home to thousands of students from around the globe who are attending post-secondary institutions. The University of Waterloo has a very large population of International Students in graduate and post-graduate studies who are in Canada for a few years. Sadly many of these students make few, if any, connections to Canadians and can feel very isolated being in a foreign country without experiencing our culture and engaging in outside activities.
One way that you can help is by inviting two or three international students for a meal this Easter. International Student Ministries Canada is a Christian charity that works on campuses across the country and they run an initiative called “Friends for Dinner” that will match students with host families for a one-time commitment.
