Covid-19 Update (March 22)

March 20, 2020

To the Woodside Community,

Our lives have been greatly impacted in recent weeks and especially over these last 8 days since the World Health Organization (WHO) described COVID-19 as a pandemic. Only a few days ago, the province of Ontario declared a State of Emergency with further restrictions, more closures, and banning gatherings of more than 50 people.

While each of our situations is unique, it is abundantly clear that the normal routines of life have been put on hold.

As a church, we will continue our pause on all public ministry programs and gatherings for the foreseeable future. The church building is closed with only limited access for specific needs.

For as long as possible, we will continue to invite everyone to come together for an online service each Sunday at 11:00 AM (available at woodsidechurch.ca/live). This week we will have a kids’ story with accompanying activity sheets available for parents to download here.

None of us knows what the next few weeks and months will bring.

But for those of us who identify as followers of Jesus Christ, we do know that He remains our Lord and Saviour, because He saved us! “For God did not send his Son into the world to condemn the world, but in order that the world might be saved through him.” (John 3:17, ESV)

Church, that is the good news! This is no longer the time to simply GO to church – it is time to BE the church.

But how do we do that?

One way is to be model citizens and follow all official recommendations to maintain “social distancing”, proper hand washing and hygiene, self-isolation upon returning from another country, limiting non-essential work and movement, etc.

Our staff and leaders are also working diligently to adapt and mobilize people to be the church. You will see and hear more about that this week.

We can all be good neighbours by reaching out, listening and acting on the immediate needs of those nearby.

And we should all pray.

If you have concerns, a specific need, or would like people to pray for you, we invite you to contact us at info@woodsidechurch.ca or 519-669-1296. You can also post requests and pray for one another on our Prayer Wall.

May the Lord bless you all.
