Camp Counsellor (First Aid Person)

The Camp Counsellor (First Aid Person) will be employed by Onside Athletics in partnership with Woodside. The employee will help run summer camp programs at Woodside. These include three weeks of Onside Athletic sports camps and three weeks of independent, mixed-activities camps.

Employment Status: Seasonal

Employment Length:  8 weeks starting June 29, 2020

Mandatory Training: July 2-3, 2020

Reports to: Camp Director

Job Requirements

  • Must be willing to work in a Christian environment
  • Must be committed to Woodside’s mission, vision and values
  • Must have up to date CPR and Standard First Aid Training
  • National Life Saving Certification (or Bronze Cross) is an asset
  • Must have experience working with Onside Athletics, or equivalent camp experience
  • Must exhibit strong interpersonal communication skills (with parents, staff, campers)
  • Must have the ability to teach and lead campers through daily camp activities
  • Must be at least 16 years of age as of December 31, 2020
  • Must participate in staff training (dates noted above)
  • Experience, knowledge of, and interest in sports is a benefit

Responsibilities

  • To build on the church’s positive reputation by adding sizzle and demonstrating excellence in all Summer activities
  • Active, positive participation in the community of camp and in staff activities
  • Act immediately and appropriately to ensure the safety of all participants in the event of an emergency
  • The employee will be responsible for coaching a group of campers, aiding in their sport and character development facilitating a faith-based discussion (ie. through ‘team talks’)
  • The employee will be responsible for overseeing and supervising a group of campers during all activities
  • The employee will be assigned to an activity station and will be responsible for teaching and guiding participants through the activity
  • Utilise their gifts and interests in the formation and implementation of Woodside’s independent camps
  • The employee will be responsible for communicating with parents and guardians
  • The employee will protect all confidential information of the players, campers, staff and parents
  • Along with the facility staff, ensure all facilities are clean and tidy, including the gym, washrooms, kitchen, youth room, meeting rooms, auditorium, etc.), and other such duties
  • Must comply with all safety protocols and procedures set in place by Onside Athletics and Woodside
