Exiles
There is an impulse to belong. From our earliest awareness of social structures, we are naturally inclined to avoid any circumstances that force us to be outsiders.
But as followers of Jesus often our identity, and subsequent pursuit of Jesus, places us at odds with the prevailing culture.
How do we manage the tension of faithfulness to Jesus when that fidelity often wars against our emotional imperative to belong?
Peter’s letter to early followers of Jesus not only teaches us how to be faithful to him in a world that isn’t following him, but also reminds us that our future hope in Jesus is far more precious than our desire to belong.
